Internal Videos Contribute To Culture

Internal videos are often overlooked or seen as less important than external facing videos. But what about their importance in contributing to an organizations’ culture?

Arts Commons 2018 AGM and Farewell to Johann Zeitsman

When Arts Commons CEO, Johann Zeitsman shared his intentions to handover the torch, the leadership team decided to pay tribute with a touching farewell video. It was all done in secret to their CEO.

In November, Alex Spence was approached by Tasha Komery, Communications Director at Arts Commons, to produce several videos. One video was specifically for their 2018 AGM, while the other was to bid farewell to their CEO. Both videos were to be played at their AGM. So time was of the essence as there were only four weeks until the AGM.

Moving forward, they had several meetings to establish intent, creative, scope and objectives. From there, Alex developed a concept and rough outline script. Once it was approved we clamped the cardellini to the dolly and started rollin!’

Cultivating Culture

Before production began, the first video evolved away from specifically addressing the AGM. The 2018 annual information would have been redundant by the time the video was presented. So instead, the leadership team decided to celebrate the entire staff.

The new direction was to celebrate the hard work the entire organization had accomplished during Johann Zeitsman’s tenure as CEO. Instead of solely focusing on Johann however, it was more about the collective good his change brought about. Staff members, a board member, and community partners stepped in to share their experience in that change, including City of Calgary’s Mayor Naheed Nenshi.

Their AGM was held in the Jack Signer auditorium with a live audience. Live audiences have greater attention spans than online audiences. So combining the videos into one longer piece was not going to effect viewership. Arts Commons’ archival footage was a treasure trove asset providing amazing visuals to complement the interview subject matter.

Arts Commons is a pleasure to work with. They were proud of what they had accomplished, and they saw the value in celebrating it as a team. What a great culture to foster.
