YOON’s Video Saves Time and Money

How Video Saves You Time And Money

Master Bobby runs Yoon’s Martial Arts Studio in Calgary. He approached Alex with a video challenge. I need a video that saves me time and money!

After some discussion, it was decided to make a promotional video. The aim was to answer the FAQ parents pose to Master Bobby about his Day Camps. Doing so would save Master Bobby time from having to answer each parents’ basic questions. So that saves time, but what about money?

Effective filmmaking and reusability is where the money saving come into play.

Proper planning upfront provided the objective of displaying information that would stay the same year-over-year versus information that would changed year-to-year. The updatable information is either text or photos, which can be changed without having to reshoot. We shot all the footage in a half day. Master Bobby supplied photos and in a week it was up on his school’s homepage.

Now, every year we change the written information but the rest of the content stays the same. This limits the yearly costs to just a few hours of editing time. No reshooting for this project.

It also helps that the day camps are super fun. You can tell because the kids are having fun. They are genuinely participating and enjoying activities in the day camp while socializing during breaks. The importance of relevant B-roll, (the shots that accompany an interview or voice over), are critical.

Qualify Your Information With Visuals

Saying something on camera in one thing, but to see it happening is another.

Part of our planning upfront, we decided to place less emphasis on the interviews making sure they at least sounded good. This allotted more time to capture B-roll in the half day we had in the budget. Resulting in a greater variety of different shots of activities taken from different angles to provide options in editing. The finished video qualifies the information parents want while making the video lively and appealing to both kids and parents alike.
